Linocut printmaking is a form of relief printmaking where a design is carved (using small sharp knives) into a block of lino traditionally made from a natural mixture of linseed oil, sawdust, and pine resin, pressed onto a woven hessian backing. 

The raised surface left on the block is then inked with a roller and pressed directly onto printmaking paper. Each print that is created this way is an original handmade piece of art and not one is the same, slight variations occur with the use of pressure and ink, often resulting in rich texture and something called "chatter" where ink shows the carved  areas.  there are many ways an artist can relieve the artwork onto paper, I personally use an etching press, which is a large metal roller on a bed which applies pressure which i roll my worth through.

There is something special about having a handmade piece of artwork, it is not a machine reproduction of an image.
